On 5/14/15, a new chapter started as the other ended a 3-consecutive term of office for Carrie Forney Gordon, Ph.D. (aka The Singing Mayor) who served as the first African-American female Mayor of Balch Springs, TX. And she did so while employed as an Senior Urban Planner with the City of Dallas; performing with her Grammy Awards-nominee husband's band (The Dr. Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon & The Music People Luv Orchestra); and managing her son Larry Gordon (Curb Records/Nashville-Los Angeles). Wow!
As a Mayor, it is visibly evident that she was a change agent in the city of Balch Springs! As Dallas County Commission John Wiley Price eloquently stated during the passing of the gavel to the newly elected Mayor, this quadrant of Southeast Dallas County is growing and the long-term planning goals and objectives started during various administrations should continue especially what Mayor Gordon has set in motion...
Most noteworthy was the efforts of Sen. Bob Duelle (Fmr.); St. Reps. Cindy Burkett and Toni Rose; Comm. John Wiley Price; Tim Green and staff (Coats-Rose Law Firm); Ed Morris (Fmr. City Manager/Chief of Police); 2011-2013 Councilmembers; and Mayor Gordon to secure the Governor's signature for passage of Senate Bill 1635 to dissolve one of the oldest Municipal Utility Districts in the State of Texas (DC6) and allow for the consolidation of all City services under one political subdivision.
Having been an activist in the commUNITY for 20+ years, it is Dr. Gordon's intent to support efforts to continue making a "positive" difference. Mayor Gordon congrats on building a framework for all to marvel for years to come!
